THE BACKSTORY…

I haven’t always had this obsession with systems and technology. I used to be a pretty normal person but on the 29th September 1998 something changed. This was the date I started my PhD. (My mum was SO PROUD).

But on my very first day I discovered that rather than swanning about in lab coats saving the world, I was going to spend 3 years sat in a dark cupboard looking down a microscope, counting spores. And over the three years of the degree I would literally have to do this hundreds of thousands of times.

And I have a very low boredom threshold. I sensed disaster. I couldn’t just jack it in, after all my mum was SO PROUD but seriously, three years in a cupboard??? What could I do?

In the corner of the very dark room was a computer which was hooked up to the microscope. No one knew what to do with it. So I figured it out. And ended up teaching myself to code so I could write a programme to count the spores for me.  As a result, I and the other 12 people in the lab saved thousands of hours of time and my mum is still proud as I didn’t have to jack in the PhD. Phew.

I was hooked. This tech lark was amazing. I left the world of scientific research (goodbye lab coats) and  consulted for large corporates, helping them use systems and tech better to make more money for their shareholders.

But making money for people I didn’t know wasn’t enough for me so now I help small business owners make more time, using exactly the same approach that big businesses use to make more money.

This extra time can be used to grow your business (and make more money), walk the dog or just binge watch Netflix. What you do with the time is the one thing I expect you do know the answer to!
