I’ve been building websites since you had to write each line of code by hand (my first effort was the tomato sauce section of the very first Sainsbury’s shopping website in case you are interested) and I’ve built more sites than I can remember.

SEO (search engine optimisation) is a fancy way of describing the process of making your website really easy for the search engines to find when your ideal customers are looking.

As most small business owners don’t have a huge budget or much time I’m a huge advocate of minimum effort for maximum output when it comes to SEO and have found that often if you just do a tiny bit more than your competitors then you can get some very positive results. 

Simple Steps to Better SEO is a service I’ve developed to help you to understand what you can quickly and easily do on your site to give it the best chance.

How it works…

Step 1 - Set up the Tech

Before you start you need to get the basics in place. Google Analytics, Search Console and a sitemap are all key to good SEO. This will allow you to track your results so you can see what’s working (and do more of it) and what’s not (so you can do less).



Step 2 - Keyword research

Use a simple keyword tool to help you find out what people are ACTUALLY searching for. There’s no point in optimising your site for things that no-one wants so this step is key


Step 3 - Optimise your site

Once you know what people are looking for you can make sure your content matches those terms. With a little practice you’ll be able to create content on autopilot that’s useful for both your readers and the SEO spiders that come looking at your site.

  • I do a quick check to make sure that you have Google Analytics and Search Console set up and create your baseline spreadsheet so we can track results going forward.
  • We meet for a 15 minute session for me to understand your ideal client and what you want to be known for.
  • I go away and research keywords I think will work for you and we meet again for 20 minutes to agree which of those words / terms will best match the content you already have vs what you might want to create.
  • Once we have agreed the keywords I’ll optimise 5 pages of your website. More can be optimised for an agreed fee if required.

  • We start with an online session to understand the keywords that are relevant to your business. I introduce you to a keyword tool that will help you understand who is looking for your keywords and you go away and do some research of your own. 
  • We meet again and work through 3 pages to optimise them for the chosen keywords.
  • Email support for 2 weeks following optimisation for any questions that arise.
