Traditionally Sunday is a day of rest. But like many traditions it is not really upheld any more. Sure the majority of us don’t go out to work but for those of us who run our own businesses it is likely that there will be some ‘work’ going on. And because the shops are open and we have so much to do it can so easily feel like any other day.
And I get it…
When you are working to get your own business up and running or running better it can feel like you should put in maximum effort ALL the time so you feel like you are doing as much as you can to get success. At least then if you fail you will be able to say, hand on heart, that you did your best right? Well maybe not.
I help people with IT systems most of the time but I also help with systems to make sure that you get the best out of your business and your life. Working with lots of different clients I have realised that time away from work is SO important. Think of it like switching the computer off and on again when it is getting a bit sluggish. It is still working OK but Ctrl + Alt + Delete resets all the background noises and lets it work harder on the things you want to do. The same thing happens with you! You need the time away from the screen, to stop thinking about work to allow you to rest.
Today is Remembrance Sunday in the UK and it seems even more fitting that we look at how we spend our day. Our relatives risked horrible deaths and many died so that we could work all the hours God sends and be too stressed to enjoy it… Oh no, I think it was so that we could have a good life and enjoy the things they gave up their rights to. Is it time for you to press Restart and start building some good down time systems into your week?
Thanks so much for this! As a part time copywriter I find myself working every day even when I say I’m going to take the weekend off or work a set amount of time. Breaks are truly needed to recharge and be better for the upcoming week. Great post!
